Chrome-plated case with stainless steel snap back: standard mid-twentieth-century specification.
Engraved presentation inscription on case back: period commemorative gift.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.

We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.

Credit / debit card purchases up to £300 can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the 'Purchase Antique' button on each listing page. Alternatively, there is a Paypal payment link if you scroll down the page and we also accept bank transfers.

We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

This 1950s gentleman's wristwatch belongs to the Mid-Century period and is styled for a library collection. The timepiece comprises a round chromium plated stainless steel case with stepped lugs, a clear glass lens, and a tan leather strap with visible stitching. The cream dial displays silver-toned Dauphine hands, arrow hour markers, a sub-seconds dial at the bottom, and black outer minute markings, alongside the brand inscription and a winding crown positioned on the right side. Light markings are present on the case, which measures 32.5 cm in diameter excluding the crown and lugs. Suitable for daily wear or display within a gentleman's collection or study, the watch operates on a hand-winding movement with a signed dial and original components. The case back includes an inscription noting a former police inspector from Needham Market. A presentation box accompanies the item for storage or presentation on a dressing table or desk top.

Cyma was established in Tavannes, Switzerland in 1862 and became recognised for producing mechanical timepieces throughout the mid-20th century. The Triplex series was introduced featuring improved shock absorption and anti-magnetic protection typical of 1950s Swiss horological engineering.

Mid-century Swiss watches typically feature stainless steel or chrome-plated brass cases, acrylic crystals, and metallic dials with applied or printed numerals. Internal mechanisms rely on jewelled lever movement components housed alongside leather or steel bracelet straps.

Authentic examples feature crisp dial branding, Swiss Made markings at the base of the dial, and official maker stampings on the movement and inner case back. Checking the reference numbers and caliber finishing assists in verifying period accuracy.

A mid-century dress watch on a tan leather strap coordinates with tailored suits, casual linen shirts, and everyday knitwear. The slim case profile sits cleanly beneath a sleeve cuff for understated attire.

Keep mechanical watches away from water exposure, strong magnetic fields, and high temperature fluctuations. Servicing by a professional horologist every three to five years helps ensure internal movement lubrication and mechanical longevity.
