Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

This Edwardian pedestal desk from the early 20th century is constructed in the Swedish Neo-Classical style using birch wood with ebonised wood and brass elements. The warm gold desk is finished in a rich golden colour throughout, featuring a figured birch veneer and an ebonised moulded edge to the top, alongside an ebonised inlay motif, walnut cross-banding, and applied ebonised plaques on the pedestal doors. Brass drop handles are fitted to the central drawer and doors, which are supported on short cabriole legs. Very minor surface marks are visible in line with its age and use. Measuring 75.5 cm high, 139.7 cm wide, and 75 cm deep, this single-piece pedestal desk is finished to the reverse to allow free-standing placement. It provides a practical workspace for a gentleman's library, study, or home office, combining traditional storage compartments with a finished back that permits placement away from walls within a room interior.

Early 20th-century Swedish furniture often draws on Biedermeier and Neo-Classical influences, combining clean structural lines with highly decorative light-coloured veneers such as flame birch. Accent details like ebonised borders, floral motifs, and understated hardware are common elements of this period style.

These desks are typically constructed with a solid softwood frame, such as pine or fir, overlaid with figured birch veneers. Ebonised timber accents and cast brass hardware, including keyhole escutcheons and drop handles, are frequently integrated into the construction.

Authentic pieces feature traditional cabinetry techniques, such as hand-cut dovetail joints on drawer linings and hand-cut veneer work. Inspecting the undersides for secondary softwoods and examining period-appropriate lock mechanisms can help confirm age and regional origin.

A Swedish birch desk pairs well with contemporary seating to contrast its historic silhouette. Positioning it against neutral wall tones within a home study or dedicated work space allows the natural figure of the timber veneer to serve as a focal point.

Regular dusting with a dry microfibre cloth prevents dust accumulation on polished surfaces. Avoid placing the desk in direct sunlight or near heat sources to prevent veneer movement, and apply a high-quality natural beeswax polish sparingly when needed.
