A Sofreh is a traditional flatwoven square or rectangular textile crafted by tribal and village weavers in Persia. These woven cloths were historically utilised during bread-kneading processes or laid on the floor as dining surfaces.

Persian flatweaves and kilims are predominantly woven using hand-spun wool for both warp and weft yarns. Natural plant-based and mineral dyes were traditionally used to colour the wool before hand-weaving.

Authentic tribal flatweaves feature minor asymmetrical variations in weave density, irregular natural dye abrash shading, and specific regional motif structures. The reverse side typically shows identical structural patterning to the front.

Interior designers frequently display antique Sofrehs as wall-mounted textile art, area floor coverings, or table covers. Their geometric compositions complement both modern minimalist and minimalist eclectic interior schemes.

Wool flatweaves should be regularly vacuumed without a rotating brush bar to prevent fibre damage. Spot cleaning should be conducted using lukewarm water and mild wool detergent, while professional specialist cleaning is recommended for complete washing.
