This large Victorian console table in a rustic farmhouse style is made from pine with a natural timber top surface and a lower pot board shelf, set within a white painted frame. The piece incorporates two deep drawers fitted with dark turned wooden knobs, a clean top and base, and a two-tone painted finish. The proportions measure 200 cm in length, 60 cm in depth, and 91 cm in height. Positioned beside the front door, the console table functions well as an entryway storage surface for daily essentials and decorative items. The lower shelf offers space for boots, baskets, or large books, while the two drawers contain smaller items out of sight. The solid construction and generous proportions suit traditional hallways, country kitchens, or rustic living spaces.

FAQs

Originating in the 19th century, these utility tables featured solid timber construction and were commonly used in country kitchens, sculleries, or dining areas for food preparation, featuring lower pot boards for open storage.

Country furniture of this period typically utilised native softwoods such as Scots pine or pitch pine, assembled using traditional hand-cut dovetail joints, mortise and tenon framing, and hand-turned wooden drawer knobs.

Authentic period pieces display hand-planed timber undersides, irregular dovetail jointing in drawer construction, natural wood shrinkage gaps, original fixings, and realistic surface wear along painted or waxed finishes.

A pine console table functions effectively in a contemporary hallway or open-plan living room, serving as an anchor piece beneath a large mirror or framed artwork and dressed with modern lamps or ceramic vessels.

Clean timber and painted surfaces using a dry or slightly damp microfibre cloth, periodically applying clear beeswax to unpainted wood to preserve moisture while avoiding abrasive chemical cleaners.
