Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Georgian chests of drawers, originating from 18th-century Britain, are defined by proportion, mahogany timbers, and functional construction. Common features include bracket feet, brass swan-neck or oval backplate handles, and hand-dovetailed drawer construction.

Primary timbers predominantly included solid mahogany or mahogany veneers, often paired with pine or oak secondary woods for drawer linings. Decorative elements typically featured cast brass handles, keyhole escutcheons, and occasional crossbanded wood inlays.

Authentic Georgian pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, handmade iron screws, uneven timber shrinkage along the backboards, and authentic wear around brass hardware. Drawers should show oak or pine linings with clear signs of hand-saw marks on the undersides.

A compact Georgian chest functions as a hallway console, bedside storage, or focal point in a living space. Pair mahogany wood tones with neutral walls, contemporary artwork, or modern lighting to create contrast.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish twice a year along the grain. Keep the piece away from direct sunlight, radiators, and high humidity to prevent timber movement and cracking.
