1919 Silver Coventry Astral Pocket Watch, H Williamson

1900 - 1920
Description

1919 silver Coventry Astral pocket watch, H Williamson.

The watch has a nice quality 15 jewel stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed with the Astral name and Warranted English, 15 jewels, B grade (mid-to-high tier line). The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside both the back covers for London 1919 with a case maker's mark for the English watch case maker Aaron Dennison. The case is in good condition, a hint of unevenness to the hinged back but not too serious at all.

The glass lens is in condition.

The dial is signed Coventry Astral, a brand name first registered by H Williamson in 1910. The dial has a faint hairline crack over number 1 but otherwise is in good condition with original blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute track.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.

Coventry Astral was a brand name produced by H. Williamson Ltd in Coventry, England, during the early 20th century, manufacturing British pocket watches through the Edwardian era and World War I period.

These pocket watches featured silver cases housing keyless mechanical lever movements, paired with fired white enamel dials, blued steel hands, and protective glass crystals.

Authenticity is verified by hallmark stamps inside the silver casing indicating metal purity, the assay office mark, and date letter, alongside maker signatures on the movement or dial.

An antique pocket watch can be displayed under a glass dome or suspended on a dedicated watch stand placed atop a desk, mantelpiece, or bookshelf.

Store the watch in a low-humidity environment to minimise silver oxidisation, avoid over-winding the mechanism, and have the mechanical movement cleaned by a professional watchmaker.
