Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This early Victorian mahogany chest of drawers displays a generous rectangular form arranged with six upper short drawers over four long graduated drawers. The piece incorporates striking rosewood crossbanding to the drawer fronts, a warm brown mahogany timber grain, and dark turned wooden knob handles. Dark cockbeading frames each drawer opening, and the entire structure rests upon a solid plinth base at the ground. It measures 142.5 cm high, 152 cm wide, and 59 cm deep. Such a capacious storage item fits naturally into a bedroom, home study, library, or drawing room as a functional focal point. One of the lower short drawers pulls open to reveal an integrated secretaire fitted with stationery compartments, pigeonholes, and a green baize-lined writing surface.

A Victorian secretaire chest is a multi-functional piece of furniture featuring a bank of storage drawers alongside a specialized drop-front or pull-out drawer designed as a compact writing desk.

These chests were predominantly crafted from solid woods such as mahogany, walnut, or oak, often finished with decorative crossbanding, fine veneers, brass locks, and hand-turned wooden knobs.

Authentic pieces generally display hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer linings, original brass lock escutcheons, natural age-related wear, and a drop-front drawer fitted with small cubbies and drawers.

Combine the dark wood tones of the chest with light neutral wall colours, modern abstract artwork, contemporary table lamps, or minimal ceramic vessels to create a balanced, eclectic aesthetic.

Maintain the finish by dusting with a soft, lint-free cloth and applying beeswax every few months, keeping the piece away from direct sunlight, radiators, and extreme fluctuations in humidity.
