Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1920s:

Two vertical cotton widths hand-stitched together: standard practice for large hangings.
Qajar costume and nasta'liq inscriptions: typical of early 20th-century Isfahan kalamkari.
Gentle softening of pigments and light edge wear: age from honest domestic use.

Kalamkari is a traditional Persian and Indian technique of block-printing and hand-dyeing cotton textiles using natural dyes and wooden carved blocks. Pictorial kalamkari panels from Central Persia often depict historical narratives, equestrian scenes, or regional folklore.

Traditional Kalamkari textiles are crafted from hand-spun and hand-woven cotton cloth. Patterns are stamped onto the fabric using hand-carved wooden blocks and refined with hand-painted detailing using plant, mineral, and vegetable dyes.

Authentic antique pieces display subtle irregularities in block print alignment, natural variations in dye tones, and fine hand-painted outlines around figures, alongside characterful wear on plain-woven cotton backings.

Large textile panels can be mounted on a bespoke fabric frame as statement wall art, hung flat behind a bedhead, or suspended along a grand hallway to add warmth, colour, and historic texture.

Keep the textile away from direct sunlight to avoid dye fading, maintain a stable humidity level, and consult a professional textile conservator for specialised cleaning or conservation mounting.
