Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian table lighter takes the form of a solid bronze patinated putto figure standing on a circular ornamental base decorated with acanthus leaf motifs. The child figure holds a threaded, removable wand aloft in his left hand and points an upright finger with his right hand, balancing on a turned pedestal resting on small round feet. Cast in warm brown bronze, the piece shows varied metallic highlights across the musculature, hair details, drapery around the waist, and the ribbed circular moulding of the stepped base. Displaying a standing sculptural composition with a cylindrical vessel on top, the object functions as a desk accessory. Suitable for placement on an office desk, library table, or mantelpiece in a study, the lighter adds period character to a gentleman's library or traditional interior scheme.

FAQs

A Victorian table cigar lighter is a decorative tabletop accessory designed to hold fuel or a burning wick for igniting cigars in nineteenth-century smoking rooms and gentlemans clubs.

These items were predominantly cast in solid bronze, brass, or spelter, frequently finished with a dark chemical patina and featuring threaded metal burner mechanisms.

Authentic pieces demonstrate hand-chased surface details, age-appropriate wear to the base, threaded internal components, and genuine patination rather than sprayed paint finishes.

Such decorative bronzes are typically positioned on an executive desk, a library bookshelf, or a fireplace mantelpiece alongside traditional leather-bound books and brassware.

Dust regularly using a dry, soft-bristled brush or lint-free cloth. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive polishes, and apply a light coat of microcrystalline wax to preserve the natural patination.
