This large late Georgian painted pine West Country dresser dates to circa 1840 and comes in two parts. The piece is constructed from pine with a dry-scraped finish showing ochre paint over the original duck egg blue backboards, complemented by white ceramic turned knobs on the three frieze drawers. Key details include a moulded cornice above an open four-shelf plate rack, a dog kennel space in the lower section, and visible surface chipping and distress exposing the wood underneath. Measuring 229 cm high, 188 cm wide, and 62 cm deep, the dresser makes a practical storage and display unit for kitchenware or dinnerware in a farmhouse kitchen, country dining room, or large open-plan living space.

A West Country dresser is a regional variation of the traditional British kitchen dresser, featuring an open plate rack positioned above drawers and a lower open pot board, constructed predominantly in South West England during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

Georgian country dressers were typically crafted from native softwoods such as pine or deal, assembled with hand-cut dovetails, iron nails, and tongue-and-groove backing boards before receiving protective painted finishes.

Authentic nineteenth-century dressers feature layered historic paint exhibiting age-appropriate wear, hand-planed timber surfaces, turned wooden or ceramic knobs, and minor structural variations typical of artisan bench construction.

A painted pine dresser can be incorporated into modern kitchens or dining areas to display ceramic tableware, glassware, and woven baskets, balancing contemporary minimalism with textural historical elements.

Historical painted pine furniture should be dusted regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Chemical solvents and wet cleaning agents should be avoided to preserve the surviving paint layers and timber patination.
