This nineteenth-century wall art piece comprises a monochrome portrait lithograph on paper depicting a gentleman in a dark coat and cravat, presented beneath glass within a heavy gilt wood frame featuring stepped mouldings and a polished gold-coloured metal presentation plaque fixed to the bottom edge. The print displays light browning in the upper and lower left corners. The frame outside measures 53.3 x 41 cm, while the print size is 41 x 29 cm. Suitable for a gentleman's library, this Victorian decorative item hangs on a wall above a sideboard, bringing historical character to a traditional study or living area.

Nineteenth-century portrait prints were typically produced via lithography or steel plate engraving, depicting prominent historical, political, or religious figures in detailed monochrome tones.

These artworks were commonly printed on paper and housed within gilded wooden frames, protected by glass and backed with protective materials.

Authentic prints often display age-related foxing, natural tonal yellowing of paper, plate impression lines, and fine continuous-tone detailing rather than modern mechanical dot matrices.

Framed portrait prints can be incorporated into a modern gallery wall alongside contemporary artwork or positioned individually above a mantelpiece or desk to introduce historical depth.

Keep framed paper works away from direct sunlight and areas of high humidity to prevent moisture damage, and clean the glazing gently with a dry microfibre cloth.
