Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

18th-century prints were primarily produced using copperplate engraving, etching, or mezzotint techniques. They frequently depicted classical themes, portraiture, and domestic genre scenes, printed on laid paper and often mounted in gilded or dark timber frames.

Frames from this era were typically constructed from carved pine or fruitwood, overlaid with gesso and gold leaf to create a gilded finish. Decorative elements often included beaded sight edges, gadrooning, and carved floral or ribbon motifs.

Authentic period prints exhibit hand-laid paper lines, plate marks around the image border, and natural aging such as foxing. Period frames display hand-carved joinery, surface patination, gilding wear showing the underlying reddish bole, and historical backing boards.

An antique print can be displayed as part of a gallery wall alongside varied frame styles, or hung individually in a hallway, bedroom, or study to create a focal point that contrasts with contemporary decor.

Keep prints out of direct sunlight and high-humidity areas to prevent fading and paper degradation. Giltwood frames should be dusted gently with a soft, dry brush without water or chemical cleaners, which can dissolve water-gilded surfaces.
