We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A bowfront chest of drawers features a convex, gently curved front panel designed to soften linear room architecture. Originating in 18th and 19th-century Britain, this style offers enhanced internal storage space while adding subtle visual interest to traditional interiors.

Primary construction typically utilized mahogany or walnut solid timber combined with flame veneers for decorative exterior surfaces. Secondary woods such as pine or oak were used for internal drawer linings and backboards, secured with hand-cut dovetail joints.

Authentic pieces feature irregular hand-cut dovetail joints, period-correct brass or turned timber handles, and solid drawer bottoms with hand-planed edges. Shrinkage split marks or natural oxidisation on original pine backboards also indicate genuine period construction.

Position the piece as a focal focal point in a hallway or bedroom, framing it with contemporary artwork overhead to contrast the dark timber tone. Complement the rich mahogany grain with neutral wall paints, minimal brass lighting, or textured stone vessels.

Maintain timber surfaces by dusting regularly with a dry microfiber cloth and applying beeswax sparingly once or twice a year. Keep mahogany items away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to avoid veneer shrinkage or sun bleaching.
