Richie Perrott Antiques has dated this Swedish Flame Birch Chest to the 1930s.
Constructed in beautifully figured flame birch, the chest displays striking book-matched veneers across the drawer fronts, creating a rich and symmetrical grain pattern that catches the light beautifully. The four generously sized drawers are traditionally pine-lined, a hallmark of quality Scandinavian cabinetmaking, and are fitted with original-style brass drop handles and decorative escutcheons, one with a key for opening.
The chest is further enhanced by attractive half barley-twist columns to each side, adding depth and architectural interest, while the whole stands gracefully on shaped turned legs. The warm golden tones of the birch combined with the lively figuring make this a particularly eye-catching piece that would sit equally well in both traditional and contemporary interiors.
A practical and stylish storage piece offering ample drawer space whilst retaining an elegant Scandinavian presence.
