This Victorian aneroid barometer and thermometer combines functional science with traditional craftsmanship, housed inside a solid English oak circular case with a turned finish. The medium brown timber showcases a rich colour and original patina alongside a hand-carved ivy leaf wreath border, a polished brass bezel, an inset quarter plate bevelled edge glass, and a small brass suspension loop at the top. Set behind the glass is an engraved silvered dial featuring ornate red and black lettering for weather predictions, a central indicator hand with a crescent moon marker, and a mercury action crescent thermometer at the lower half marked with a Fahrenheit scale. Measuring 28 cm high, 28 cm wide, and 6.5 cm deep, the piece mounts easily to a narrow wall space. It serves as a practical timepiece and decorative accent in a study, hallway, or gentleman's library.

An aneroid barometer is a 19th-century scientific instrument designed to measure atmospheric pressure without liquid, operating via a sealed evacuated metallic capsule that expands or contracts with air pressure changes.

Victorian wall barometers were typically constructed with solid timber surrounds such as oak or mahogany, paired with silvered brass dials, bevelled glass faceplates, and cast brass bezels.

Authentic examples feature hand-carved foliate or geometric motifs, silvered brass scale plates engraved with atmospheric readings, integrated mercury or spirit thermometers, and original brass mounting loops.

A wall-mounted oak barometer can be hung in an entrance hall, study, or gallery wall layout alongside oil paintings and brass accents to complement dark or neutral paint schemes.

Keep the piece away from direct heat sources or damp environments, dust the carved oak frame gently with a dry soft brush, and clean the faceplate glass using a microfiber cloth.
