Large Heals of London 1930’S Oak Dresser Base – Labelled

1920 - 1940
Description

Large Heals of London 1930’s Oak Dresser Base – Labelled

This is the best example we have ever had of a solid English oak dresser base or sideboard, made for Heals of London in the early thirties by Reynolds of Ludlow in the Cotswold School manner. It is a great size, the larger version and is in excellent condition and still in the original finish. The large Heals makers label is inset into a door. The four central drawers all run well and have the original brass handles, flanking the drawers are a pair of raised panelled cupboard doors, inside are adjustable storage shelves. This Heals of London oak dresser stands on large sledge feet with a shaped apron between them. A superb Heals model in solid oak.

Width: 160cm (63.49")

Depth: 45cm (17.86")

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Heals furniture from this era is defined by modern functionalism combined with traditional British cabinet making. Pieces typically feature high-grade oak, clean geometric lines, recessed or fielded panel doors, and minimal decorative flourish.

Cabinetmakers utilised quarter-sawn oak to highlight natural grain patterns, along with traditional dovetail drawer joints, framed panel doors, and solid brass hardware such as ring pull handles.

Authentic pieces often retain an ivory, bone, or ivorine makers label set into the top edge of a drawer, alongside characteristic geometric framing, unpretentious hardware, and substantial timber weight.

Position the piece against a neutral wall backdrop to let the timber warmth stand out. Decorate the surface with oversized modern artwork, sculptural ceramic vessels, or a contemporary table lamp to balance historical design with modern aesthetics.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish along the direction of the wood grain once or twice a year, avoiding placement near direct heat sources or radiators.
