Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of 1900 Dutch Revival bedsteads in the English Country House style consists of two matching single beds constructed from timber, leather, and brass. The pieces are finished in an aged brown colour with hand-painted crests on the arched headboards and footboards, brass stud trimming along the edges, and turned bun feet at the base. Each bedstead shows visible signs of age and wear through surface scuffs and patination across the leather panels. They measure 137 cm high, 90 cm wide, and 198 cm deep overall, accommodating standard single mattresses. These bedsteads suit placement in a guest bedroom or a master bedroom scheme, providing a traditional focal point for a period interior. They require standard domestic assembly with the included platform bases and mattresses to function as regular sleeping furniture within a home.

FAQs

Dutch-style bedsteads are recognised for their arched, shaped cresting on the headboard and footboard, often embellished with polychrome painting, tooled leather, or decorative studwork reflecting 17th and 18th-century Northern European craft traditions.

These bedsteads typically feature solid timber frames covered in hide upholstery, decorated with tempera or oil pigments, and secured around the perimeter using hand-hammered brass or iron studs.

Authentic period leather exhibits natural craquelure across the painted surface, gentle fading of pigments, and oxidisation around the individual brass tacks, alongside historic wear patterns on the wooden rails.

Pairing painted leather bedsteads with neutral linen bedding and crisp walls allows the rich texture and painted crests of the headboards to act as the primary focal point in a guest bedroom or twin room layout.

Painted leather should be kept away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent drying or cracking. Regular light dusting with a dry microfibre cloth is recommended, avoiding chemical cleansers or heavy oils that may damage historic pigments.
