This George III sideboard originates from around 1800 and is made from warm brown figured mahogany with boxwood stringing inlay, satinwood details, and original brass rosette hardware. The shaped top sits above a central drawer positioned over an open arch, flanked by two side compartments, and the structure stands on six square tapering legs with spade feet. Measuring 88.5 cm high, 113.5 cm wide, and 50 cm deep, the piece offers compact proportions suitable for various interior settings. In a contemporary home, this sideboard functions well in a dining room, hallway, or living space to provide surface display area and concealed storage. The decorative inlay along the drawer fronts and legs adds refined detail to the classic silhouette. The warm timber tones and traditional joinery fit naturally into period or country house interiors, serving both practical and decorative purposes.

FAQs

Originating in the late 18th century, George III sideboards are characteristically constructed from mahogany and exhibit classical symmetry, geometric stringing inlays, and slender square tapered legs.

These pieces typically feature solid and veneered mahogany, boxwood or satinwood stringing inlays, oak drawer linings, and cast brass ring-pull or rosette handles.

Authentic Georgian examples display hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, natural timber shrinkage over time, original cast brass fittings with age-related oxidisation, and hand-planed timber surfaces.

Position the piece against a muted neutral wall, balanced above with a modern mirror or contemporary artwork, and accessorised with simple ceramic lamps to contrast modern texture against rich mahogany patina.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish twice yearly along the grain, keeping the furniture away from direct radiator heat and damp conditions.
