A mid-19th century Victorian campaign chest of drawers, dating to circa 1850, offers practical storage in a distinctive traditional design. Constructed in two separate sections from mahogany with a warm brown colour, the timber displays rich figuring and an untouched original patina across all surfaces. The front elevation presents an arrangement of two short drawers positioned above three long graduated drawers, fitted with recessed flush brass handles and brass corner mounts. Additional brass carrying handles are set into the side panels. The structure stands raised on small turned wooden bun feet. Overall measurements stand at 101.5 cm high by 91.5 cm wide and 50 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this traditional piece functions effectively in a bedroom, study, or hallway as a sturdy chest of drawers. The portable two-section construction allows for straightforward placement and relocation within domestic interiors while providing generous enclosed storage capacity for garments, documents, or household items. The durable mahogany surfaces and functional hardware suit daily use while maintaining a distinct historical appearance suited to classical or eclectic interior schemes.

A military campaign chest is modular storage furniture made specifically for naval and army officers to transport personal belongings while stationed abroad during operations.

These chests were predominantly crafted from durable hardwoods such as mahogany, teak, or camphor wood, and were reinforced with brass corner mounts and flush hardware to withstand travel.

Authentic examples typically divide into two separate stacking sections for transit, feature iron or brass side-carrying handles, and utilise recessed brass drawer pulls and flush corner brackets.

A campaign chest serves effectively as a functional focal piece in a hallway, bedroom, or living room, complementing both contemporary architectural spaces and classic interior schemes.

Regular dusting with a dry, soft cloth and periodic applications of natural beeswax polish will protect the wood finish and maintain the patinated surface of the brass fittings.
