This Victorian military chest belongs to the 19th-century campaign style, constructed in two separate sections from rich mahogany with a warm brown finish. The chest displays flush brass handles set into each drawer face, brass corner brackets on the edges, and small turned feet supporting the base. The arrangement consists of two short upper drawers positioned above three full-width lower drawers. The dimensions measure 112 cm high, 95 cm wide, and 50 cm deep. Placed in a home today, this piece provides practical drawer storage in a bedroom, study, or living space. The traditional form and solid timber construction suit both classic and contemporary interiors while maintaining historical character.

A military campaign chest is a piece of portable storage furniture designed to split into two separate sections for ease of transport by military officers during deployment in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Campaign furniture was routinely constructed using dense hardwoods such as mahogany, teak, or camphor wood, paired with flush-fitting brass corner brackets and recessed handles engineered to withstand frequent transit.

Authentic Victorian campaign chests feature a distinct two-part modular construction, inset brass hardware flush with the wood surface, removable turned screw-in feet, and hand-cut dovetail drawer joinery.

A campaign chest can be styled as a focal piece in a hallway, home office, or bedroom, contrasting effectively against contemporary minimalist walls, framed prints, and modern lighting fixtures.

Regular dusting with a dry microfibre cloth and an annual application of clear beeswax polish will protect the timber finish, while brass hardware should be kept free from abrasive chemical cleaners to avoid removing historic oxidisation.
