This Victorian rosewood bachelor's chest of drawers follows a Georgian Revival style. Constructed from dark warm brown rosewood, the small chest possesses a highly figured timber grain and a rich patina. Details include a pull-out brushing slide beneath the top, graduated drawers fitted with heavy brass swan-neck handles, and traditional bracket feet. The chest measures 71 cm high, 64 cm wide, and 36 cm deep. Suitable for use in a bedroom, sitting room, or hallway, the chest provides practical independent storage where space is at a premium. Its compact proportions allow it to fit neatly into smaller alcoves or serve as a bedside table.

FAQs

Characterised by balanced proportions, fine timber veneers, and brass hardware, these chests were historically constructed for refined bedroom and dressing room storage during the 18th and 19th centuries.

These pieces typically feature solid timber casing overlaid with figured rosewood veneers, hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, brass batwing or swan-neck handles, and carved bracket feet.

Look for signs of hand-planed timber, hand-sawn drawer bottoms, original brass lock mechanisms, and natural unevenness in dovetail joinery that indicates period craftsmanship.

Position the piece as an entryway focal point or bedroom nightstand, pairing its dark wood grain with neutral textured wallpaper, contemporary ceramic lamps, and minimal artwork.

Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth, apply high-quality beeswax once or twice a year following the timber grain, and keep the piece away from direct sunlight or strong heat sources to prevent cracking.
