This Victorian chest of drawers, dating from around 1860, is constructed from solid mahogany with striking flame mahogany veneers across the front. The exterior displays a warm brown finish that highlights the natural figuring of the wood, complemented by cockbeaded drawer borders, rounded corners, and a traditional plinth base resting on bun feet. The piece features a two-over-three drawer configuration fitted with matching turned wooden knobs and small brass key escutcheons. Measuring 102.5 cm high, 117 cm wide, and 54 cm deep, this mid-19th century storage item provides practical accommodation for clothing and linen. Positioned in a bedroom, dressing room, or hallway, this chest serves as both a functional storage unit and a decorative surface for lamps, mirrors, or personal items. The substantial proportions and classic English country house design allow the chest to integrate into both traditional and transitional interior schemes, offering surface space alongside deep drawer storage within living areas or sleeping quarters.

A Victorian mahogany chest of drawers typically features a two-over-three drawer configuration, flame mahogany veneers, and sturdy hand-dovetailed joints crafted during the 19th century.

Cabinetmakers during the Victorian period constructed these pieces using solid softwoods or oak carcases overlaid with flame mahogany veneers, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints and solid wooden drawer knobs.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetailing, original brass or iron locks, solid timber drawer linings, and natural patination across the mahogany surfaces.

Position the piece as a focal statement in a hallway or bedroom, pairing rich mahogany timber tones with neutral wall palettes, contemporary lighting, or minimalist artwork.

Maintain the timber finish by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying high-quality beeswax twice yearly, keeping the item away from direct heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage.
