Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 19TH CENTURY:
Hand-tooled detail on the serpent scales: careful cold chasing after casting.
Natural darkening and green verdigris inside the bowl: long exposure to air.
Fine horizontal turning rings around the socle: finishing on a hand lathe.
Verde antico marble base: traditional mount for neoclassical bronze decorative pieces.

An early nineteenth-century George IV period Regency decorative bowl and tazza presents in dark brown bronze and green marble. The navette-shaped ovoid bowl displays a cast ovolo edge, fluted gadrooning along the body, and twin open intertwined serpent handles looping upwards from the sides. A fluted and cast detail spreading socle supports the central pedestal stem above an integral rectangular base, which rests upon a solid block of figured green antico verde marble. The dark bronze surface maintains an even, consistent patina across the metalwork. Measuring 20 cm high, 25 cm wide, and 10 cm deep, the object sits suitably atop a sideboard in a dining room, living room, or study. Interior placements include display surfaces where classical decorative accessories complement traditional or transitional furniture schemes.

A tazza is an elevated shallow dish or bowl mounted on a stem and foot, designed primarily as a table centrepiece or decorative vessel. The term navette refers to a boat-shaped or elliptical silhouette inspired by classical antiquity and prominent during the Neoclassical movement.

During the George IV period, decorative tazzas were predominantly cast in bronze, brass, or gilt metal, often featuring rich dark patination. Bases were frequently fashioned from imported marbles such as antico verde, sienna, or porphyry to provide visual contrast and stability.

Authentic early 19th-century bronze tazzas typically exhibit hand-chased ornamentation, crisp casting details such as gadrooning or serpent handles, and natural surface patination. The construction often reveals threaded rod assembly and hand-cut stone plinths underneath the base.

A classical bronze tazza serves as a structural focal point when placed on a dining table, mantlepiece, or console. It can be displayed empty to showcase its metalwork and marble base, or used to anchor symmetrical decor arrangements.

Patinated bronze should be dusted regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and preserved with a thin layer of microcrystalline wax applied sparingly. Marble bases require protection from acids and moisture, requiring gentle wiping with a damp cloth without abrasive chemical cleaners.
