Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This early 19th-century English country house dresser base is a substantial piece fashioned from pine, brass, and paint. The furniture displays a muted blue painted finish across its framework, complemented by a natural wood top surface. Notable details visible include four horizontal drawers fitted with small round brass knob handles, straight upright legs, and an open slatted lower shelf running the full length of the base. Practical in proportions, the unit measures 85 cm high, 227 cm wide, and 54 cm deep. In a modern interior, this dresser base provides versatile storage and display surfaces. It suits placement in a farmhouse kitchen, a spacious hallway, or a living area as a side console. The open lower shelf accommodates baskets or decorative objects, while the upper drawers offer concealed storage for everyday items, bringing functional utility and traditional country character to domestic spaces.

FAQs

A dresser base is a long, low storage piece originating in regional kitchens and dining rooms, historically featuring drawers and often an open lower potboard shelf without an upper plate rack.

Traditional dresser bases were predominantly constructed from regional softwoods such as pine or hardwoods such as oak, often finished with mineral paints and fitted with brass or turned timber handles.

Authentic examples typically feature hand-dovetailed drawer construction, evidence of historical paint layers or natural wear at contact points, and traditional mortise and tenon timber joinery.

Position the piece in a wide hallway or open-plan dining space, layering the top surface with ceramic vessels or artwork while using the lower shelf for storage baskets or folded linens.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft, dry cloth, avoid harsh chemical cleaners, and apply a clear microcrystalline wax periodically to protect the painted frame and bare timber top.
