This nineteenth-century neoclassical sculpture depicts Venus standing on a rectangular plinth base in a figurative posture. Produced by the French company Barbedienne around 1880, the figure is rendered in dark brown and gold parcel-gilt bronze, displaying draped classical attire with parcel-gilt drapery and holding a small sphere in her raised right hand. The sculpture measures 17 cm in height, 8 cm in width, and 4 cm in depth. Suitable for placement on a mantelpiece, this piece suits a gentleman's library or a traditional study. It brings classical design to interior spaces, functioning as a standalone decorative object on surfaces like bookshelves, sideboards, or display cabinets.

Ferdinand Barbedienne established a prominent nineteenth-century French foundry known for utilizing the Collas mechanical reduction technique to reproduce classical sculptures in bronze for domestic display.

French bronze sculptures from this era were produced using lost-wax or sand-casting techniques, followed by hand-chasing and application of chemical patinas or selective parcel-gilding.

Authentic examples often display stamped foundry markings, precise casting lines, natural surface wear, and weight consistent with solid cast metal.

Placing a bronze figure on a mantelpiece, marble-topped console, or bookshelf introduces historical character and tonal contrast into contemporary spaces.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry soft cloth or soft-bristled brush, avoiding water, chemical solvents, or metal polish that can strip original patination.
