FAQs

The Louis XVI style emerged in France during the late 18th century as a reaction against the asymmetrical curves of Rococo, favouring neoclassical restraint, straight lines, and classical symmetry.

Traditional pieces were typically constructed from solid hardwoods such as oak or walnut, often featuring hand-cut dovetail joints, brass hardware, and painted or polished finishes.

Authenticity is determined by examining construction techniques, such as hand-cut joinery, period-appropriate hardware, timber shrinkage patterns, and the presence of historical wear and oxidisation.

Such a piece works effectively as a focal point in a contemporary setting, providing historical contrast when paired with minimalist decor, neutral walls, and modern lighting.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight to protect the painted finish, and dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth without harsh chemical polishes.
