FAQs

A Wellington chest is a tall, narrow style of chest of drawers that originated in the early 19th century, traditionally featuring a hinged locking side stile that secures all the drawers with a single key.

These pieces are typically constructed from dense hardwoods like mahogany or walnut, often featuring fine drawer dovetailing, turned wooden knobs, and a vertical locking mechanism held by a side-mounted pilaster.

Authenticity is indicated by hand-cut dovetail joints, traditional timber shrinkage, original locks and hardware, and hand-finished secondary woods on the interior drawer linings.

Its slim vertical proportions make it ideal for compact spaces, serving as a functional storage piece in a bedroom or study while introducing rich wood tones and traditional character to modern schemes.

Maintain the wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying high-quality beeswax to nourish the finish.
