Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This French Louis XVI revival double bed originates from the early 20th century. Constructed from walnut with fruitwood veneers and ormolu mounts, the bed displays a warm brown colour palette with contrasting lighter timber tones. The headboard stands tall with an arched cresting rail, central trellis parquetry panels, and gilded bronze mounts. The footboard features curved ends, tapered turned legs with dark turned feet, and an intricate oval central panel depicting floral marquetry in a vase, flanked by further trellis parquetry and decorative gilded ormolu appliqués. The frame measures 158 cm high by 166 cm wide by 196 cm deep overall, with an internal sleeping area of 196 cm by 149 cm. Position this statement bed frame as the central feature in a traditional master bedroom or guest suite, pairing it with neutral linens and classic bedside furniture to complement the detailed woodwork and gilded accents. The robust wooden construction provides a stable structure for daily rest, while the elaborate decorative marquetry and symmetrical classical motifs establish an ornate focal point within the sleeping quarters.

FAQs

Originating in the late nineteenth century, Louis XVI Revival furniture draws upon Neoclassical principles, featuring geometric symmetry, straight lines, turned tapered legs, and intricate decorative wood veneers such as marquetry and parquetry.

These beds are typically constructed using hard woods such as walnut, mahogany, or oak, embellished with delicate timber veneers like rosewood, kingwood, and fruitwoods, often accented with cast gilt bronze (ormolu) fittings.

Key indicators include hand-cut timber veneers forming floral or lattice patterns, Neoclassical motifs such as laurel wreaths or ribbons, cast bronze mounts, and precise mortise-and-tenon joinery on the timber frame.

A Louis XVI Revival bedstead works well as a focal point paired with modern crisp linen bedding, neutral wall paint shades, and minimalist bedside tables to balance the detailed antique woodwork.

Maintain marquetry by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, keeping the furniture away from direct heat sources or damp environments, and applying a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the timber finish.
