The George IV period, spanning from 1820 to 1830, bridges late Regency and early Victorian designs, often characterised by heavy classical influences, robust proportions, and the prominent use of dense tropical hardwoods like mahogany.

These tables were typically constructed from solid mahogany and mahogany veneers over secondary softwoods, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints in the drawer construction and traditional turned or reeded legs.

Authenticity is verified by inspecting the drawer linings for hand-planed surfaces, examining the grain and colour for natural oxidisation, and checking for period-correct fixings such as brass castors and hand-turned wooden knobs.

Pairing a dark wood antique table with minimalist contemporary seating and modern lighting creates a balanced focal point that highlights the historical craftsmanship without overwhelming the space.

Maintain antique mahogany by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting, applying microcrystalline wax periodically, and dusting gently with a dry, soft cloth.
