This small Georgian regional Welsh dresser from the 18th century is fashioned from warm brown oak with a soft colour and good patination. The piece stands 190 cm high, 144 cm wide, and 42 cm deep, with narrow proportions comprising a tiered open plate rack above a rectangular top and three graduated drawers fitted with brass swan neck handles on shaped brass back plates. Below the drawers sits a shaped frieze and a scalloped apron, supported by turned front legs that rest above a lower pot board base. In a contemporary home, this rustic farmhouse dresser serves well in a kitchen, dining room, or living area as a practical storage and display unit for tableware, linens, or decorative items. The open shelving accommodates plates and crockery, while the lower drawers provide enclosed space for smaller items, and the lower shelf holds larger cookware or decorative pottery.

An 18th-century Welsh oak dresser is a regional piece of storage furniture characterised by a base containing drawers and a lower pot board shelf, surmounted by an open tiered rack for displaying plates and pottery.

These dressers were constructed primarily from local English or Welsh oak, using traditional cabinetmaking techniques such as mortise and tenon joints, hand-dovetailed drawer boxes, and hand-forged or cast brass hardware.

Authentic period examples feature hand-planed timber surfaces, original pegged construction, uneven backboards, age-related oxidation around brass fittings, and proportional wear on the pot board and feet.

Style the open shelves with minimalist ceramics, pewter, or glassware, using the lower drawers for concealed storage to create a balanced contrast between historic woodwork and contemporary decor.

Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, avoiding modern aerosol sprays, excessive moisture, and placement near direct heat sources.
