A delft charger is a large tin-glazed earthenware plate produced in Europe during the 17th and 18th centuries, heavily influenced by imported Chinese porcelain designs.

Delftware is made from a buff or pinkish earthenware clay body coated with an opaque white tin-oxide glaze, which is then hand-painted with metallic oxides such as cobalt blue.

Authentic pieces often exhibit crazing, minor rim chips, kiln stilt marks on the base, and hand-painted brushwork with slight variations in the cobalt blue pigment.

These decorative plates can be mounted on a wall using specialized hangers or displayed upright on a mantelpiece or sideboard using a plate stand to add historical contrast to contemporary spaces.

Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth and avoid washing in water or using chemical cleaners, as the porous historic glaze and body are susceptible to moisture damage.
