It was listed by Siez Gallery. Sold pieces stay on Sellingantiques as a record of what has passed through, and the next one is rarely far away.

Description

This highly pictorial rug is an intriguing example of Armenian Artistry. Rows of combs, tulips and other floral imagery spread the attention across the whole face of the rug. Despite not being perfectly symmetrical, the rug maintains a balance, with its very thin border framing it like a piece of art. But perhaps the most striking feature is the midnight blue background, that retains a magical aura despite its old age. This is a great rug for those looking for something different.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Antique Armenian rugs originate from the Caucasus and surrounding historical regions, where skilled weavers produced hand-knotted textiles featuring symbolic motifs that reflected their cultural heritage and local traditions.

These pieces are typically constructed using hand-spun wool for both the pile and the foundation, dyed with natural vegetable colorants, and executed in traditional symmetrical or asymmetrical hand-knotting techniques.

Authenticity is determined by examining the natural wear patterns, the use of organic dyes, hand-spun wool characteristics, specific regional geometric motifs, and the construction of the selvages and fringes.

An antique tribal rug functions effectively as a grounding element in modern spaces, adding texture and historical contrast when paired with minimalist furniture or integrated into eclectic interiors.

Preservation requires regular gentle vacuuming without a beater bar, professional organic cleaning when necessary, protection from direct sunlight to prevent fading, and the use of a breathable rug underlay.
