We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

The Meiji period spanned from 1868 to 1912, a time when Japanese metalworkers transitioned from crafting samurai sword fittings to producing decorative objects for international export, leading to extraordinary technical advancements in bronze casting and inlay.

These vessels are typically cast from bronze or brass using traditional lost-wax or sand-casting methods, featuring delicate hand-carved channels into which contrasting metals like silver, gold, or copper are hammered to create pictorial scenes.

Authentic pieces often exhibit natural patination, fine chisel marks under magnification, artist signatures or foundry marks on the base, and a dense, heavy feel indicative of traditional alloy compositions.

An antique bronze vessel can be displayed as a sculptural accent on a bookshelf or mantelpiece, either left empty to highlight its metallic surface or paired with minimal dried botanicals to complement neutral contemporary palettes.

Preserve antique bronze by dusting gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding commercial chemical cleaners or polishes that can strip away the historical patina and damage delicate metal inlays.
