FAQs

Traditional Chinese paintings, particularly those produced for export during the Qing dynasty, often depicted flora and fauna such as Asiatic pheasants to satisfy Western demand for exotic oriental art.

Historical Chinese paintings were typically executed using mineral pigments and watercolours on handmade pith paper, mulberry paper, or silk, often mounted with silk brocade borders.

Authentic pieces exhibit natural ageing such as subtle foxing, hand-ground mineral pigments with visible brushwork texture, and traditional mounting techniques rather than modern print dot patterns.

Such artwork can be integrated into modern spaces by pairing it with minimalist framing to highlight the delicate brushwork, placing it alongside neutral walls or complementary natural textures.

Antique works on paper require conservation-grade framing with UV-protective glass, and should be kept away from direct sunlight, high humidity, and extreme temperature fluctuations to prevent fading and paper degradation.
