The Georgian style spans the reigns of the four British King Georges (1714 to 1830), characterised by classical proportions, symmetry, and the gradual transition from walnut to mahogany as the preferred timber.

Master craftsmen predominantly utilised solid mahogany and mahogany veneers, frequently incorporating secondary woods such as oak and pine for drawer linings, internal framing, and backboards.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer construction, hand-turned wooden knobs or original brass hardware, and subtle imperfections in the timber grain indicative of period hand tools.

Pairing historical timber pieces with contemporary artwork and minimalist lighting creates a balanced scheme that highlights the rich grain of the wood without overwhelming the space.

Maintain antique timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent wood splitting, and nourish the surface periodically with traditional beeswax rather than modern silicone polishes.
