Description

RARE late 19th century DESIRE LEROY for Royal Crown Derby, England twin handled urn with original lid. This stunningly beautiful piece is in very good condition except for slight damage to the inner lip of the lid as pictured, this could be easily professionally repaired but I have left it for now for selling. All the gilding is in tact with hardly any rubbing at all. It is sighned LEROY in the bottom right hand corner of painting. Both parts are fully marked with the Royal Crown Derby marks for the late 19th century.

Apart from the minor damage to the lid this is in stunning condition and has been priced accordingly. Similar pieces make several thousand pounds at auction. This piece was bought privately in a house in Perth.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Royal Crown Derby has a long history dating back to the mid-18th century, renowned for producing high-quality bone china and receiving royal warrants for its craftsmanship and distinctive designs.

These items are crafted from fine bone china, shaped through traditional casting or moulding, and meticulously hand-painted with detailed floral motifs and heavy 22-carat gold gilding.

Authenticity is verified through makers marks, pattern numbers, and specific backstamps stamped or painted on the base, alongside the exceptional quality of hand-applied gilding and enamel work.

An ornate decorative vessel functions effectively as a focal point on a mantelpiece, console table, or within a glass-fronted cabinet, adding a layer of historical texture and refined colour to the room.

Preservation requires gentle dusting with a soft, dry cloth, avoiding immersion in water or harsh cleaning agents to protect delicate hand-painted details and fragile gold leaf.
