A namakdan is a traditional woven container historically used by nomadic tribes in Persia to store and transport rock salt for their livestock and household needs.

These pieces are typically crafted using hand-spun wool for both the pile and foundation, often incorporating warp-faced plain weave, soumak, or supplementary weft-float techniques.

Authenticity is determined by evaluating the use of natural vegetable dyes, hand-spun wool characteristics, traditional tribal iconography, and natural wear consistent with nomadic use.

These compact woven pieces are frequently mounted on linen backing and framed as contemporary textile art or displayed as small sculptural objects within minimalist interiors.

Preservation requires keeping the textile out of direct sunlight to prevent dye fading, avoiding excessive moisture, and gently vacuuming with mesh protection to remove dust.
