FAQs

Georgian oak dressers originated in 18th-century Great Britain, initially utilised in farmhouse kitchens and country houses for storing and displaying domestic kitchenware before evolving into prominent dining room furniture.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid native English oak, featuring traditional joinery techniques such as hand-cut dovetails for the drawer construction and pegged mortise and tenon joints.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting the hand-planed surfaces, irregular timber grain, original brass or iron hardware, hand-cut dovetails, and signs of genuine age-related oxidisation and wear.

A period dresser can be incorporated into contemporary schemes by using it as a striking focal point in a dining area or hallway, topped with minimalist ceramics or architectural lighting to create a balanced contrast.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight, and periodically applying traditional beeswax to nourish the timber surface without using modern chemical polishes.
