The George III period spans from 1760 to 1820, characterised by a transition from heavy baroque influences to more refined, classical proportions inspired by Palladianism and later Neoclassicism.

Cabinetmakers during this era predominantly used native timbers like oak for carcases and drawer linings, often veneered with highly figured woods such as walnut or mahogany, joined with hand-cut dovetails.

Authentic pieces typically feature hand-cut dovetail joints, cedar or oak secondary woods, original brass or cast-bronze hardware with appropriate patination, and hand-planed backboards.

A period chest of drawers adds warmth and textural contrast to contemporary spaces; it can be used as a focal point in a bedroom or hallway, topped with simple ceramic or bronze decorative objects.

Maintain antique wooden surfaces by keeping them away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying pure beeswax to nourish the timber.
