This 18th-century Dutch neoclassical breakfront commode employs oak with a pale green painted finish and a light faux marble top. The piece has four drawers fitted with decorative brass ring pulls and escutcheons, complemented by fluted side columns and a moulded plinth base with bracket feet. The painted surface displays a distressed crackled glaze with visible wear along the edges, revealing darker tones underneath. Measuring 91 cm high, 136 cm wide, and 61 cm deep, this chest of drawers offers substantial surface and storage capacity. It serves well as a statement storage unit in a living room, hallway, or bedroom, accommodating lamps or decorative objects on the marble surface while holding linens or everyday items within.

A Dutch breakfront commode is a low storage cabinet featuring a central section that projects forward beyond the side panels. Originating in the 18th century, these pieces combine functional drawer storage with Neoclassical design elements influenced by Continental European styles.

These commodes were typically constructed from solid hardwoods such as oak or pine, often fitted with a shaped marble top. Construction features hand-dovetailed drawer joints, carved mouldings, and cast brass hardware including ring handles and keyhole escutcheons.

Authenticity is indicated by hand-cut dovetail joints, irregular hand-sawn timber marks on the back panels, natural wear around handles, and hand-cast brass fittings with age-appropriate oxidisation. Original painted surfaces often display subtle craquelure and layered historic pigments.

A painted commode serves as a focal point in hallways, living areas, or bedrooms. Pairing its muted tones with modern minimalist artwork, textured ceramic lamps, or contemporary mirrors creates an engaging contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern interior design.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth. Avoid applying harsh chemical cleansers or water to painted surfaces to preserve historic finishes; marble tops should be cleaned with pH-neutral stone cleaners and sealed to prevent staining.
