FAQs

Early 20th century British watercolours typically feature soft washes, naturalistic palettes, and a focus on rural topography, capturing the atmospheric conditions of the countryside.

These works were usually executed using gum-based pigment watercolours applied to handmade rag paper or thick watercolour board, often using graphite underdrawings.

Authenticity is assessed through examination of paper ageing, watermark analysis, pigment composition under magnification, signature verification, and the presence of historic framing materials.

Pairing historical artworks with contemporary minimalist frames or hanging them within a gallery wall creates a striking contrast that bridges traditional and modern aesthetics.

Antique watercolours should be kept away from direct sunlight and high humidity to prevent pigment fading and paper degradation, and framed using acid-free archival mounts.
