The George III period, spanning from 1760 to 1820, is characterised by classical proportions, refined craftsmanship, and a transition from heavy mahogany designs influenced by Chippendale to lighter, neoclassical styles inspired by Hepplewhite and Sheraton.

Cabinet makers predominantly utilised solid timbers such as mahogany and oak, frequently incorporating decorative veneers like satinwood or rosewood. Construction features hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, mortise and tenon frames, and often original brass hardware.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting secondary timbers in drawer linings, hand-forged or cast brass fixings, signs of age-related patination and shrinkage, and traditional tool marks left by hand planes rather than modern machinery.

Pairing historical timber pieces with contemporary artwork and minimalist lighting creates a balanced juxtaposition, allowing the rich grain and traditional craftsmanship to serve as a focal point without overwhelming the room.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity and temperature levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent fading, and periodically applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the timber surface rather than using silicone-based polishes.
