FAQs

Vienna bronzes are characterised by small-scale, highly detailed cast bronze figures produced in Austrian foundries, most notably associated with masters like Franz Bergman, featuring realistic animal and human subjects.

These pieces were crafted using the traditional lost-wax casting method for bronze or brass, finished with a specialized multi-layered cold-painting technique where oil-based paints were applied directly to the unheated metal surface.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit hallmark foundry marks, Bergman-style urn or Geschutzt stamps, naturalistic weight, and the characteristic patina and micro-flaking associated with aging cold-painted finishes.

Position the piece as a focal point on a dark wood writing desk, a bookcase shelf, or a mantelpiece to introduce historical character, texture, and a sense of curated antiquity into the room scheme.

Dust gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding all water, liquid solvents, and chemical polishes to prevent damage to the delicate, unbaked cold-painted surface.
