FAQs

French bronze casting has a rich tradition dating back centuries, with foundries in Paris producing high-quality commemorative figures, historical portraits, and animalier sculptures, particularly during the 19th century.

These pieces are typically produced using the lost-wax (cire perdue) casting method or sand casting, utilizing high-grade bronze alloys that are subsequently hand-chased and finished with a chemical patination.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the depth and quality of the chasing, the presence of foundry marks or signatures, the natural wear of the patina, and the weight and composition of the metal alloy.

An antique bronze piece adds gravitas and historical interest when placed on a bookshelf, a desk, or a mantelpiece, serving as a focal point that contrasts effectively against clean, contemporary surfaces.

Bronze should be dusted regularly with a soft, dry cloth and occasionally treated with a microcrystalline wax to protect the patina from moisture and atmospheric pollutants, avoiding abrasive cleaners entirely.
