This nineteenth-century Victorian log bin and planter is a cylindrical object fashioned from warm copper and iron with a rustic farmhouse style. The piece presents a rolled rim above a cylindrical body that exhibits a natural weathered copper patina with surface wear and marks from age. A heavy riveted vertical seam runs down the side, complemented by a horizontal row of rivets around the lower section. The lightly polished metal surface reflects light across its hammered appearance. Measuring 41 cm high, 58 cm wide, and 58 cm deep, the container is practical for everyday use. Today, this item finds a functional place in a home by a fireplace hearth to store firewood, or alternatively as a large indoor planter for foliage. The sturdy construction and traditional riveted details lend a robust industrial character suitable for rustic interior schemes. The combination of exposed rivets and rich copper tones brings texture and warmth to living spaces without the need for additional ornamentation.

In nineteenth-century households, large copper tubs were essential utility vessels used primarily for boiling laundry, heating water, and brewing. Copper was chosen for its excellent thermal conductivity, resistance to corrosion, and durability under repeated heating cycles.

Traditional copper tubs were constructed from sheet copper shaped by hand hammering and joined along seams using heavy iron or copper rivets. Bottom bands were frequently reinforced with additional metal straps and riveted joints to support the weight of liquid.

Authentic period copper vessels feature hand-set rivets, uneven seam joints, and subtle hammer marks across the surface. Genuine pieces also display natural signs of age, such as slight surface irregularities, deep tonal variation in the metal, and verdigris oxidisation near joints.

Large copper tubs are commonly repurposed as functional log bins beside a fireplace or hearth. They also serve as decorative containers for indoor trees and large foliage, bringing natural warmth and textural contrast into contemporary living spaces.

To preserve the historical patina, avoid abrasive chemical cleaners or harsh metal polishes. Dust the surface with a soft, dry cloth and wash gently with mild soapy water if necessary, ensuring the metal is dried thoroughly afterwards to prevent unwanted corrosion.
