FAQs

Georgian chests of drawers gained prominence during the 18th century in Britain, evolving from simple storage boxes on frames into sophisticated, multi-drawer case furniture crafted primarily from imported timbers like mahogany.

Authentic period pieces were typically constructed from dense tropical hardwoods such as mahogany, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer construction, oak secondary woods, and cast brass handles.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the hand-cut dovetails, timber shrinkage patterns, tool marks, original brass hardware, and the presence of secondary woods consistent with the period.

An antique mahogany chest provides a rich focal point in a contemporary room, contrasting effectively against neutral walls and functioning as practical storage paired with minimalist lamps or mirrors.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent timber fading, and occasionally applying traditional beeswax rather than modern silicone polishes.
