Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Chippendale style furniture originated in 18th-century England, named after cabinetmaker Thomas Chippendale. It is characterized by formal proportions, the extensive use of dark mahogany, intricate wood carving, and distinctive hardware such as swan-neck brass handles.

Primary woods in Georgian cabinetmaking included Cuban and West Indian mahogany, valued for durability and grain structure. Secondary woods used for interior drawer linings included oak, pine, or deal, complemented by cast brass handles and keyhole escutcheons.

Authentic period chests display hand-cut dovetail joints that are slightly irregular in size and spacing. Examining drawer undersides often reveals hand-sawn tool marks, oak or pine secondary timber, and original brass fittings secured with handmade nut fixings.

Balance dark mahogany wood tones by placing the piece against neutral or muted wall shades. Modern interior design pairs traditional mahogany chests with contemporary table lamps, abstract artwork, or minimal glass accessories to create visual contrast.

Position mahogany furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage and veneer movement. Dust regularly with a soft cloth and apply high-grade beeswax polish along the wood grain twice yearly to protect the finish.
