A Victorian marine barometer is a meteorological instrument designed specifically for use on ships or in coastal fishing communities to measure atmospheric pressure and predict weather changes during the 19th century.

These instruments typically featured durable outer casings made from cast steel, iron, or brass, paired with glass dial covers and brass bezels to withstand harsh maritime environments.

Authentic pieces often feature hand-engraved or printed paper dials with specific atmospheric graduations, maker signatures, heavy cast metal cases, and signs of age-appropriate oxidisation and wear.

It can be mounted on a prominent wall in a study, hallway, or living space as a focal point, pairing particularly well with dark wood panelling, maritime collections, or industrial decor.

Preservation involves keeping the instrument away from direct sunlight and excessive moisture, gently dusting the exterior with a dry microfibre cloth, and avoiding harsh chemical metal cleaners on aged brass.
