Description

This delightful drawing shows a country lad, aided and abetted by his loyal dog, making off with a bird's nest full of tiny hatchlings. The parent bird flies overhead possibly in alarm but maybe with relief that the family is being moved to a safer location.

Drawn on laid paper in pen, ink and watercolour, it comes with the bonus of a second ink sketch on the reverse side showing two children in a landscape. This drawing has a inobtrusive small piece of clear tape over the boy's hat which it may be possible to remove if desired.

The drawing is set in a turned wood frame with an inner gilt rim (old chip to the right hand edge).

Georgian works on paper typically feature delicate ink linework combined with soft watercolour washes, often focusing on portraits, landscapes, or pastoral scenes reflecting the romantic sensibilities of the period.

These pieces were created using handmade rag paper, iron gall or carbon ink, and natural pigment watercolours, housed in timber frames with glass protection.

Authenticity is assessed through paper fibre analysis, watermark inspection, ink oxidation patterns, and the construction methods of the accompanying period frame.

An antique drawing adds historic depth when hung on a gallery wall alongside contemporary pieces or placed individually within a minimalist room to create a strong focal point.

Drawings on paper must be kept away from direct sunlight, maintained in stable humidity conditions, and framed using acid-free materials to prevent degradation and fading.
