The William IV period spans the 1830s, bridging the late Regency era and early Victorian times, characterised by robust proportions, classical influences, and often heavy scrollwork or turned supports.

Pieces from this era typically utilized solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over secondary softwoods, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints in drawers and traditional turned or reeded legs.

Authenticity is indicated by period-correct timber grain, hand-cut joinery, original brass or wooden turning hardware, and signs of age such as oxidation on the mirror glass and hand-planed secondary boards.

Pairing a period wooden piece with modern minimalist seating or placing it against a neutral wall creates a striking contrast that highlights its historical craftsmanship without overwhelming the room.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying natural beeswax to nourish the wood.
